Consumer Supported Agriculture at the Greenbank Farm

Your opportunity to sign up for a seasonal share of Fresh, Locally Grown, Organic Food

This year the CSA Training Center, an innovative project at the Greenbank Farm, is growing a new batch of farmers along with fresh organic vegetables for your family. The Port of Coupeville, Greenbank Management Group and South Whidbey Tilth are collaborating with NABC to make land and facilities available for local, organic food production. Each apprentice farmer will grow food for 10-12 families.  These new farmers will have a comprehensive training program, advice from seasoned local farmers, certified organic land for growing, and support from our community to make their first harvests a success.

You can have a weekly box of fresh vegetables delivered to a pick-up site close to you – Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Greenbank, Freeland, or Bayview. For 20 weeks (June through Oct. depending on weather), your farmers will prepare an assorted box of freshly picked, island grown, organic produce. We will grow over 60 varieties of vegetables to ensure a varied selection. Contents of the box will vary throughout the growing season as your farmer will pick only the vegetables that are at their peak each week.

A typical late spring box may include: spinach, green onions, bok choi, lettuces, radishes, mizuna (an asian green) and sugar snap peas.

By mid summer you’ll find: broccoli, carrots, onions, mixed salad greens, basil, garlic, beets, leaf lettuce and tiny summer squash.

In late summer/fall your box may hold green beans, kale leeks, potatoes, garlic, sweet peppers, winter squash and cherry tomatoes.

Make a commitment to eat more fresh local vegetables. The vitamin packed, nutritionally rich foods in your box each week will improve your family’s diet.

Everything is organically grown so you know the food is safe and the environment was protected, even enhanced, in the growing process. Your farmers will provide weekly recipes and suggestions to help you identify your vegetables and prepare delicious, simple meals.

Let us be your partners in health.

Fresh greens wilt quickly, so come at the designated pick-up times as we have limited cool storage. If you (or a friend) are unable to pick up your box the day it is harvested for you, we will happily donate the items to the local food banks or soup kitchens.

NABC began in 2006 as a response to a critical need for a single regional business support organization focusing on practical, hands-on technical assistance for the development and expansion of new and existing agricultural businesses. NABC, itself a non profit organization, is involved in producing or supporting value-added products and services that will tip the balance toward profitability for many of the small and mid-sized farms in the five county region of the NABC. The NABC serves five Washington counties, including Island, San Juan, Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish.
